If you do not follow this expectation, you will be written up for “skipping” class which will result in disciplinary action.

Florida Law:  If a student misses more than 10 fifty-minute class periods  of course instruction, the student must prove mastery to pass the class.

Mastery = Pass one of the two 9 weeks of a course and the semester exam.

Attendance is important to your academic/social growth. 
Excessive absences result in poor performance!

ABSENCES: 

• Missing 50% or more of a class period= Absent
• Excused = illness, med. appt., death in family, religious holiday, OS (Bring note to Student Services.
• Unexcused = any absence that is not considered excused
• More than 10% of semester (10 days or more) MUST
  
  • Pass one nine week and 
  • Pass the semester exam to receive credit (NEW)
  
  
• Make-up Work:
  
  • ALWAYS opportunity to make up work without academic penalty (100%) 
  • Is your responsibility.  Ask teachers for, and complete make up work within allotted time (e.g., 1 day of absence= 1 day to make up work). 
  
  
• Suspended License due to 15 unexcused absences in 90 calendar day.

All students must complete 20 hours of community service to meet graduation requirements.

You have 4 years to complete this requirement. However, it is highly recommend that you mark this off your list of graduation requirements first.

YOU are responsible for device AND charger.
Do NOT leave in the classroom.
If you lose or damage a device, you will be responsible for the replacement cost.
Chargers must be returned as well.
ALL devices must be returned in May, just like textbooks.

Lake Worth Community High School is a closed campus.  Once on campus, regardless of travel method, students are to remain on campus.  Students are not allowed to leave campus without administrative approval. 

Due to enhanced security on LWCHS campus, no visitors will be permitted on campus during bell change transitions, lunch etc.

Parent arrives at the main gate to inform of their arrival (Parent must have a valid ID and be authorized for pick up).  

The parent will park and walk up to the welcome center to sign out the student.

Student runner will go to your classroom to retrieve you and give you a EARLY RELEASE PASS.

It is important that you sign back in at the Single Point of Entry if returning to school that same day (Parent does not need to escort a student back on campus). 
All Early Releases should take place prior to 2:15 p.m.

Parking Permits may be revoked at any time for policy violations which include but are not limited to:

• Tardiness to school.
• Reckless driving on school grounds.
• Parking in any spot not assigned to you, including staff, visitor, or handicap.
• Going to parking lot or any student vehicle during school hours without administrative clearance.
• Transferring decals or reselling your decal to another student.  This is strictly prohibited.

School-Wide Definition of Tardiness:

• Teachers will close classroom doors when the tardy bell rings; any student not in the classroom before the door closes will be considered tardy.
• When the bell rings, the door swings!

Responsibilities During Class Change (i.e. between the dismissal bell and the tardy bell)

• Move quickly to the next class, avoiding distractions.
• Bring all materials necessary for your class.
• Handle personal needs (restroom, vending machine, etc.) in a time frame that allows you to arrive on time to class.
• Passes will not be distributed during the first 10 minutes and last 10 minutes of class.

Bus Loop Expectations:

• Upon arrival, safely exit your bus and immediately report to campus.
• Do not walk between buses. Use the sidewalk.
• At dismissal, locate your bus on the whiteboard and immediately report to your bus.
• Allow the bus to come to a complete stop before approaching the bus.
• Remember, riding the bus is a privilege. Respect your bus driver and fellow passengers.

If students still need to register for the bus, please direct them these instructions.

ALL students must be registered for the bus in order to ride the bus.  NO exceptions.

Contact Congress about important Issues

The United States Congress needs to hear more about the issues affecting communities around the country, such as issues faced by American youth.
Emailing a member of Congress is one way to champion this cause. Students can receive 1 hour per letter. Submit a copy of your letter to your counselor.

Math Nation Community Service Opportunity Link

Students can earn hours for:

• virtually tutoring a younger student (including siblings)
• if it is necessary for them to provide childcare for younger siblings.

For students who use these options, the parent should send an email to the school counselor indicating how many hours per day and days per week the student was tutoring or responsible for the care of younger siblings.

If the parent does not have an email address or does not write, the student can send an email to the counselor with this information and the counselor (or a CLF) will call the parent to verify the hours.

Tour Your Dream State School From Home With the Virtual College Tour. 

With students mostly unable to physically tour a college or university due to COVID-19-related visitor restrictions, colleges and universities are offering virtual tours. The virtual tours will provide prospective students the ability to explore the campus, hear about academic programs, as well as to understand the unique opportunities and requirements that vary from one school to the next throughout Florida.

Florida Atlantic University (FAU)  VIRTUAL TOUR

Established in 1961, Florida Atlantic University officially opened its doors in 1964 as the fifth public university in Florida. Located in Boca Raton, the university offers more than 170 undergraduate and graduate degree programs to more than 30,000 students within its 10 colleges. 

Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU) VIRTUAL TOUR
