Literacy Week at LWCHS

Literacy Week at Lake Worth Community High School
Posted on 02/03/2020
The celebration of Literacy Week at Lake Worth Community High School began in classrooms and extended to the local community. The ripple effect of literacy creates powerful opportunity for students to share their love of reading.

Students donated books to Highland Elementary and the local branch of the Literacy Coalition (see video). AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) teachers and students visited Highland's Elementary school and read to students in grades K-3.

Students in the Early Childhood Education Academy collected and boxed books for the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County that will distributed.  Ms. McGowan's tenth grade English class donated many books for younger students to read and share with their families.

Throughout the week teachers and students shared their favorite novels with one another; participated in daily drop everything and read activities in the classroom.

The library media center displayed and encouraged students and staff to read one of the fifteen 2020 Florida Teens Read titles that are being read by many high school students throughout the State.
